About Whedonopolis And It's Staff
Whedonopolis is dedicated to promoting the Whedonverse and everyone involved in it, whether cast, crew, writer, director, producer, or what have you. We feel it's our job to help you keep track of what's going on with the people that made the fictional universes we love so much. Whedonopolis was founded by C. Kelly Amor, Alison Frankel, Patti Hutchens, Ray McDermott, Marsia Powers, Shan Ray, Brian Rubin and Susan Weber.
Current Staff:
- Marsia Powers - President
- C. Kelly Amor - Editor-in-Chief
Kelly is cranky when people make her write things about herself. Kelly may unleash "The Wrath of Kristen"* if she is pushed too hard. Bow down to "The Wrath of Kristen"! (*see below)
- Alison "Alikhat" Dayne Frankel - Graphics & Web Design
Alison Dayne "Alikhat" Frankel is
a professional graphic artist, designer, illustrator and sculptor with some slightly disturbed, if not totally mad, web skillz besides. She’s also a recent convert to the joys of celeb photography, the result of which readers are likely to see
here, and a prolific writer, the results of which readers are not.
An ardent fan of all things Whedon, including his professed love of Sondheim (who is a god… Passion notwithstanding), Ms. Frankel is proud and happy to be a part of Whedonopolis and looks forward to ever more fantastical goodness from
the endless imagination of Joss.
- Brian Rubin - Staff Writer & Website Admin
Brian Rubin is a Philadelphia, PA native who moved to Los Angeles, CA eight years ago to be a professional writer. Having written about technology and video gaming as a journalist for over a decade now, Brian has now taken the dive into covering fandom as a journalist. Being introduced to the Whedonverse in reverse (first through Firefly -- still his favorite -- and then through Buffy and Angel), Brian is now a hardened Whedonite.
Since the age of four -- when Brian first found Star Trek -- Brian has soaked up nearly every science-fiction show he could get his hands on, from Knight Rider to Buck Rogers to Battlestar Galactica (original and reimagined). When not watching one of the many TV shows he keeps track of, Brian spends his time with literature, computer games, karaoke and technology.
- Patti Hutchens - Staff Writer
Patti Hutchens is one of our Staff Writers. She is a Buffy and Firefly fan. Her favorite part of fandom is keeping up with the musical side of the Joss Whedon stars.
- Susan Weber - Legal Advisor & Staff Writer
Susan is a staff writer and legal advisor for Whedonopolis. She grew up on Star Trek, NBC Must See Thursdays, and Choose Your Adventure books, which probably explains a lot. Despite being a licensed attorney, she spends her days saving the world (or selling her soul, take your pick) as a research scientist for a biologics corporation.
When she's not on the Internet searching for information on David Tennant's latest project, the self-professed Anglophile is probably watching British telly or some sci-fi show. She firmly believes that she will be independently wealthy one day, but doesn't understand this concept of "working for it." A Whedon fan for ages, she eagerly awaits future projects from the man himself.
- Ray McDermott - Community Liason & Staff Writer
Ray McDermott was hooked on Buffy The Vampire Slayer from the first episode but like many others did not find Firefly until the DVD box set came out. Since Angel's cancellation, he has yet to find a show worthy of obsession.
An avid film buff, he co-runs FilmRadar.com, a website that covers specialty film screenings in Los Angeles. Ray was also the organizer of the 2007 Los Angeles Can't Stop The Serenity screening.
- Shan "Iggie" Ray - Graphics, Photographer & Iggie's House of Blog
Shan Ray, aka Iggie, is the print graphics designer, features writer and convention blogger for Whedonopolis.com. She is usually to be found skulking behind the Orange Curtain and emerges occasionally to dispense t-shirts and witty repartee only to disappear behind the orange crates again. By day, she is an office manager and works for a soulless corporation, however there have been no recent sightings in any known fluorescent hallways. It is rumored that she has retreated to an island and is communicating from there whenever the weather permits an uplink.
- Salena Roper - Project Manager
- Eugene Powers - Staff Photographer
Eugene Powers, aka "Mad Russian," has been a photographer for the last 40 years, professional for the last 10 years, provides his best quality work to Whedonopolis.
- Libya El-Amin - Media Editor
- J.M. Rubinstein - Staff Writer
J. M. Rubinstein is a Saturn Award-winning DVD professional who has worked in the industry for over seven years. He was worked on such titles as The Simpsons, Family Ties, Hellraiser, Heathers, Night of the Living Dead, Mobile Suit Gundam and The Evil Dead. Also an author, his debut novel, Ben, was a finalist for Foreword Magazine's Book of the Year Award in 2004. For Whedonopolis, he creates specialized screening versions of episodes and specials for events.
- Kristen A - Staff Writer
Jared is mine! Stay away from him! Fear my wrath! [grrrrrrrrrrr!]
- IndustryGeekGal - Staff Writer & East Coast Correspondent
- Megan Sullivan - Staff Writer
Hailing from the Far East (well, Northeast), Megan Sullivan is a recent LA-transplant and loves every minute of it. She is currently finishing her Master's degree in Professional Writing at USC. With her writing partner, April, whom she met through the Firefly fan site, aptly named "Fireflyfans.net," Megan hopes to have a career in TV writing ... very soon.
Besides writing an original TV pilot and TV spec scripts together, Megan and April’s writing partnership has produced hours of discussion regarding Nathan Fillion’s handsomeness, Katee Sackhoff’s amazing-ness and Joss Whedon’s awesome-ness. An original TV Pilot Script and joint TV Spec Script efforts are in the offing, however, don’t hold your breath. There is still Tim Minear’s snarkiness, Jamie Bamber’s hunkiness and John Krasinki’s adorableness to discuss.
- April Maguire - Staff Writer
Raised in the backwoods of Maine and the swinging suburbs of Worcester, Mass, April Maguire attended Boston College, where she studied English and film. During her junior year, she spent a semester in London, perfecting her English-speaking skills and drinking copious amounts of Starbucks coffee. Upon graduation, she took a position at a publishing company where she wrote a number of children's books about such topics as having a shoe and losing a shoe. She also began an entirely shoe-free fanfic-writing project set in the amazing world of Whedon's Firefly/Serenity. It was through this—totally unprofitable; don't sue me, FOX—endeavor that April met now-writing-partner Megan Sullivan.
Currently, April attends USC on a graduate teaching assistantship, which allows her the scary opportunity to impress young minds (i.e. make her students watch Battlestar). She and Ms. Sullivan are presently developing a Supernatural-themed TV pilot. April's interests include reading, writing, Jensen Ackles and things with lemon in them. She aspires to have a cancelled show of her very own some day.
