Webseries: The New Wave of TV

It was four years ago that major TV and movie moguls claimed that online TV shows would never amount to anything. Dr. Horrible? A nice little musical, but it’s not Broadway. The Guild? A comedy about gamers would never work.

Of course they did. Not only were they successful online, they sold pretty well in the DVD market. Not only that, Dr. Horrible will be on the CW this October and The Guild will have a new season this fall, according to creator Felicia Day.

But the biggest news of all is that YouTube had a special panel during the Television Critics Association summer tour. Does this mean YouTube and other internet channels could be the new Showtime or HBO? More after the jump…. Read more about Webseries: The New Wave of TV

It’s the Hat: The Jayne Hat Phenomenon

You see them sprinkled in a fan crowds everywhere, these ugly-but-cute orange-and-red woolen ear flap hats, even in the heat of summer.  The Jayne Hat was where I lost my knitting virginity, and now having knitted about a dozen of them myself as charity items and gifts, I can attest to its heat-retaining warmth, having finally knit one for myself and test run it on top of Kitt Peak, Arizona, in November. In that mix is the “after-market” world of successful franchises, whether it is movies or television. One of those avenues is comics.

Marian Call on Tour 2012 – Live at the Nerdist Theater in Los Angeles

Marian Call is on tour.  Not just any tour; an epic adventure-quest tour!  The sassy, soulful, nerdy, funky, folky songstress, a favorite among Browncoats, is currently in the process of singing her way across the nation.  I must admit that I’m a newbie to her music.  How this is the case by this point, I’m not quite sure.  This past Thursday evening I decided to change that fact by attending her Los Angeles show at the Nerdist Theater at Meltdown Comics.  Luckily, I had a couple friends with me who knew all the song titles and even sang along a little.
